At the beginning of May, REC Poland and Kampinos National Park took part in the “7th Meeting of the European Conservation Network Workshop + LIFE CHARCOS Seminar + 12th Annual SWS European Chapter Meeting”.
The first part of the integrated conference (1-4 May) was organized by the European Pond Conservation Network and by the Portuguese LIFE CHARCOS project, while the second part (4-7 May) was led by the Society for Wetland Scientists. The international conference was attended by about 150 scientists and representatives from local non-governmental organization, mainly from Europe but also from North America, Morocco and Yemen. Both parts of the conference took place at the University of Algarve Faro (Portugal).
REC Poland and KPN presented their LIFE KAMPINOS WETLANDS PL project in an oral session as well as in a poster session. There were opportunities to exchange experiences knowledge with the experts of LIFE CHARCOS project, not only during the conference but also in the field. We took part at a very interesting field trip to the project areas of this LIFE project in Vila do Bispo and Sagres, in the southwest of Portugal. There, Mediterranean temporary ponds (3170*), target habitats of the LIFE Charcos Project, are being studied, restored and protected.
At the end of the conference, REC Poland took part in a field trip to Doñana National Park – one of the most important wetlands in Europe, located in Spain close to the border to Portugal.
