World Wetlands Day 2024

World Wetlands Day is celebrated every year on 2 February. This date commemorates the signing of the so-called Ramsar Convention in 1971, an international agreement to protect wetlands. Within the meaning of Article 1 of the Convention, ‘wetlands are areas of marsh, fen, peatland or water, whether natural or artificial, permanent or temporary, with water that is static or flowing, fresh, brackish or salt, including areas of marine water the depth of which at low tide does not exceed six metres’.

As in previous years, the celebration of this important anniversary in Warsaw was organised by the Centre for the Protection of Wetlands (CMoK) and the Faculty of Biology of the University of Warsaw. The WetLIFE project was represented at the event by Karolina Bukowicka from REC Poland, who spoke about the planned activities in the KPN.
